Spiritual Disciplines and Spiritual Formation

Working with men at ECC over the past 3 years has revealed some things to me. I often meet with men who are dealing with different things in their lives and often they are living with a lot of regret over unwise choices they have made. At some point I usually ask them about their personal discipleship journey and where they are in that process? I often get bewildered looks and even had one young man angrily ask me “You keep saying discipleship, how is discipleship going to help my broken marriage?” 

The truth of the matter is we are all disciples. The question is who or what are we a disciple of? Are we a disciple of culture, politics, marketing departments, social media? Or are we truly a disciple of Jesus? We are going to dive into the topic of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus at this next men’s breakfast and then throughout the year we are going to hear from other men who will share their personal stories of embracing spiritual disciplines in their lives and how God has transformed them into new ways of thinking and living.
